Mon premier vélo était rouge. Aucune idée de la marque mais c’était probablement un CCM de chez Savaria à Boucherville. J’ai commencé avec les petites roues puis je les ai enlevées et je suis tombé. C’est sur ce vélo que j’ai appris à pédaler. Au primaire la mode était aux CCM Mustang. Le mien était vert avec un shifter à 3 vitessses sur la barre horizontale, un siège banane et des banderoles de plastique multicolores. On mettait des cartes de baseball (jamais aimé le hockey) dans les roues pour faire du bruit et j’avais une dynamo pour éclairer. Je me rappelle aussi vaguement d’un odomètre mécanique qui fonctionnait comme le dynamo c’est à dire avec une roue accotée sur le pneu. Mon premier vélo de route c’était la version cheap du CCM Targa à 5 vitesses dont j’oublie le nom. Il était gold. Au CEGEP j’ai acheté un Velosport Prestige que j’ai encore. Il était équipé du groupe Shimano 600 arabesque. En 1990, succombant à la stupide mode du vélo de montagne en milieu urbain, j’ai livré du courrier pendant un été avec un tank. Je crois que c’était un Norco. Les vitesses indexées semblaient justifier le surplus de poids. En aout 2005, après 15 ans de sédentarité, je suis entré dans un magasin de vélo dans le but d’acheter des soulier et des pédales pour mon Prestige et je suis sortis avec un Trek 2300. C’est encore mon vélo de route. J’ai découvert le pignon fixe en 2006. 2 semaines plus tard j’ai acheté un cadre Iro que j’ai fait monter avec les pièces de mon Prestige. En 2008 un bon gars m’a donné un cadre d’Appalache. J’en ai fait un navetteur urbain. Je roule principalement avec ce vélo en ce moment car c’est le seul qui peut endurer mon sale trajet. Le petit dernier, le Marinoni spécial 1989 m’a presque été donné. J’ai promis d’en prendre soin. Je l’ai remonté en fixe. Il va être beau avec sa nouvelle Brooks Swallow brun chocolat.

Avez-vous déjà pesé un vélo de montagne pour enfant dans une grande chaîne? J’ai eu un choc en fin de semaine. Comment un vélo de si petite taille peut être aussi pesant? On parle de 50 lbs au moins, de quoi écoeuré n’importe qui du vélo pour le restant de ses jours. À moins que ce soit un truc songé pour vendre des scooters.

Let me tell you something, do you like monster movies? Anybody? I LOVE monster movies, I simply adore monster movies, and the cheaper they are, the better they are. And cheepnis in the case of a monster movie has nothing to do with the budget of the film, although it helps, but true cheepnis is exemplified by visible nylon strings attached to the jaw of a giant spider . . . I'll tell you, a good one that I saw one time, I think the name of the film was "IT CONQUERED THE WORLD" Did you ever see that one? The monster looks sort of like an inverted ice-cream cone with teeth around the bottom. It looks like a (phew!), like a teepee or . . . sort of a rounded off pup-tent affair, and, uh, it's got fangs on the base of it, I don't know why but it's a very threatening sight, and then he's got a frown and, you know, ugly mouth and everything, and there's this one scene where the, uh, monster is coming out of a cave, see? There's always a scene where they come out of a cave, at least once, and the rest of the cast . . . it musta been made around the 1950's, the lapels are about like that wide, the ties are about that wide and about this short, and they always have a little revolver that they're gonna shoot the monster with, and there is always a girl who falls down and twists her ankle . . . heh-hey! Of course there is! You know how they are, the weaker sex and everything, twisting their ankle on behalf of the little ice-cream cone. Well in this particular scene, in this scene, folks, they, uh, they didn't wanna re-take it 'cause it musta been so good they wanted to keep it, but they . . . when the monster came out of the cave, just over on the left hand side of the screen you can see about this much two-by-four attached to the bottom of the Thing as the guy is pushing it out, and then obviously off-camera somebody's goin': "NO! GET IT BACK!" And they drag it back just a little bit as the guy is goin': "KCH! KCH!" Now that's cheepnis.
